Zaditor (generic name: ketotifen ophthalmic) is indicated for the temporary prevention of itching of the eye due to allergic conjunctivitis. It is used in adults and children at least 3 years old to temporarily treat itching of the eyes caused by allergy to dust, pollen, grass, animals, or other allergens. Zaditor is also a mast cell stabilizer that prevents allergic reactions by reducing the release of natural substances that cause an allergic reaction.

Do’s

  • If you are using the over-the-counter product, read all directions on the product package before using Zaditor. If your healthcare provider has prescribed this medication, use it exactly as directed.
  • The recommended dose is one drop in the affected eye(s) twice daily, every 8 to 12 hours. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
  • Wash your hands before using the eye drops to avoid contamination.
  • If your healthcare provider says you may continue wearing contact lenses, remove them before using the eye drops, and wait at least 10 minutes after each dose before putting in your lenses.
  • Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to make a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and apply 1 drop in the lower eyelid. Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out. Replace the dropper cap after each use, and keep the bottle tightly closed.
  • If you are using another kind of eye medication (drops or ointment), wait at least 5 minutes before applying it. Apply eye drops before eye ointments to allow the eye drops to enter the eye.
  • Wait several minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
  • If your condition lasts or gets worse, if you develop new symptoms, or if you think you have a serious medical problem, seek medical help right away.
  • If you are treating yourself with nonprescription Zaditor, consult your healthcare provider if your itching worsens or lasts more than 72 hours. You may need a different medication

Don’t

  • Try not to blink and do not rub your eye after applying the eye drop.
  • Do not rinse the dropper after use.

If you have any concerns about the side effects of Zaditor, consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice and support.

Individuals allergic to Zaditor or experiencing eye irritation caused by wearing contact lenses should not use Zaditor.

Zaditor should not be used by young children without the help of an adult.

Zaditor should be stored at room temperature, between 39 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
