Vigamox, with the generic name moxifloxacin ophthalmic, is primarily used to treat bacterial conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye. It is an infection of the membrane that covers the outside of the eyeballs and the inside of the eyelids.

Moxifloxacin belongs to a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones and works by killing the bacteria that cause the infection.

Do’s

  • Before applying Vigamox, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent contamination.
  • To properly administer this eye drop
    • Tilt your head back and look upward.
    • Pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket.
    • Place the dropper directly over the eye and instill the prescribed number of drops.
    • Close your eyes gently for 1 to 2 minutes.
    • Apply gentle pressure at the corner of the eye near the nose to prevent the medication from draining away.
  • If you are using other types of eye drops, wait at least five minutes before applying them after using Vigamox.
  • Wait several minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
  • Use Vigamox regularly at the same times each day to get the most benefit from it.
  • Continue using Vigamox for the full time prescribed by your healthcare provider, even if symptoms improve before the prescribed duration. Stopping the medication too early may result in a return of the infection.
  • If your condition does not improve within 7 days of using Vigamox, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch any surface, including your eye, to avoid contamination.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while using Vigamox. If you normally wear contact lenses, consult your healthcare provider before using them again.
  • Try not to blink or rub your eye after applying the drops.
  • Do not rinse the dropper after use.
