Ventolin Diskus is indicated for the treatment and prevention of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

It is particularly useful for patients who are unable to use standard inhalers or are sensitive to freon propellants

The active ingredient in Ventolin Diskus is salbutamol sulphate, which acts as a bronchodilator.

Salbutamol works by relaxing the muscles within the airways, a process known as bronchodilation. This relaxation makes it easier to breathe by opening up the small airways in the lungs.

Do’s

  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before using the Diskus.
  • Hold the Diskus upright with the mouthpiece down. Slide the lever on the side of the Diskus to open it completely (a click sound might occur).
  • If it's your first time using the Diskus, or if you haven't used it for more than a week, point the Diskus away from your face and press the button on the top to release a puff into the air. Repeat this step once more (for a total of 2 puffs). Do not inhale these practice puffs.
  • Hold the Diskus upright with the mouthpiece towards you.
  • Breathe out completely as much as possible before inhaling through the mouthpiece.
  • Place the mouthpiece between your lips and close your lips around it. Inhale slowly and deeply through the mouthpiece.
  • Hold your breath for 5-10 seconds, or as long as comfortable.
  • After holding your breath, slowly breathe out through your nose.
  • After use, wipe the mouthpiece with a dry cloth or tissue. Do not wash the Diskus with water.
  • Slide the lever to close the Diskus completely.

Don'ts

  • Don't use the Diskus if it's past the expiry date.
  • Don't shake the Diskus.
  • Don't take more puffs than prescribed by your healthcare provider at a single time. There should be a space of at least a minute between puffs.
  • Don't use the Ventolin Diskus with a spacer or any other inhaler device unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider.
  • Don't force air out of your lungs after inhaling.
  • Don't rinse the Diskus with water.
