Travatan Z is a prescription medication used to treat glaucoma, ocular hypertension, and other diseases of the eyes. It belongs to a class of drugs called synthetic prostaglandin analogs. The active ingredient in Travatan Z is travoprost, and it works by regulating the flow of fluid within the eye to maintain normal pressure.
Do’s
- If available, read the leaflet provided by your pharmacist before starting to use Travatan Z and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
- Before applying the eye drops, wash your hands thoroughly to maintain proper hygiene.
- Tilt your head back slightly and look upward. Gently pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pouch.
- Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place one drop into the pouch created by pulling down the lower eyelid.
- Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. You can place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out.
- If directed by your healthcare provider, repeat the same steps for the other eye.
- After each use, replace the dropper cap without rinsing the dropper.
- If you are using other eye medications, wait at least 5 minutes before applying them. It is recommended to use eye drops before eye ointments to allow the drops to enter the eye.
- Wait several minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
- Use Travatan Z regularly and at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.
- Even if you feel well, continue using the medication as prescribed, as most people with glaucoma or high pressure in the eye do not have symptoms.
Don’ts
- Do not touch the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
- Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes after applying the medication.
- Eye irritation or redness
- Eye itching or burning
- Eye pain or discomfort
- Blurred vision
- Sensitivity to light
- Dry eyes
- Eyelash changes (increased length, thickness, or number)
- Eyelid redness or swelling
- Headache
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
