Timoptic XE Ophthalmic Gel (Timolol Maleate)

Do’s

• Use Timoptic-XE exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily in the affected eye(s).
• If you use other eye drops, apply them at least 10 minutes before using Timoptic-XE.
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water to prevent contamination before touching the dropper.
• Take out your contact lenses before using Timoptic-XE. Ask your healthcare provider about the recommended waiting time before reinserting them.
• Shake the bottle once (before each use). Hold the closed bottle upright and shake it once to mix the medication. Don't shake it more than once.
• Tilt your head back, look up, and gently pull your lower eyelid down to create a pouch. Hold the dropper tip close to your eye (but not touching it) and squeeze one drop into the pouch. Look down and close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes. Press your finger to the inner corner of your eye (near the nose) for a few seconds to prevent drainage. Repeat for your other eye if instructed.
• Clean and store properly. Don't rinse the dropper. Replace the cap securely after each use.
• Allow a few minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
• Use Timoptic-XE regularly at the same time each day for best results.
• Keep using Timoptic-XE even if you feel well, as glaucoma often has no noticeable symptoms.

Don'ts

• Don’t touch the dropper tip to your eye or any surface. This can contaminate the solution.
• Don’t  use more than prescribed: Don't use more Timoptic-XE than your healthcare provider tells you to.
• Don’t  skip doses: Try not to miss any doses of Timoptic-XE.
• Don’t stop using it without consulting a healthcare provider. Don't discontinue use of Timoptic-XE without talking to your healthcare provider first.

Common Side Effects:

• Dizziness
• Eye pain, swelling, or discharge
• Slow or irregular heartbeat
• Muscle weakness
• Mental or mood changes
• Coldness, numbness, or pain in the hands or feet
• Vision changes
• Unusual tiredness or weakness

Serious Side Effects:

• Dizziness that doesn't stop
• Trouble breathing
• Sudden unexplained weight gain
• Chest pain
• Weakness on one side of the body
• Trouble speaking

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Timoptic XE ophthalmic gel, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Let your healthcare provider know if you have allergies to Timolol or any ingredients in Timoptic XE.

Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing health issues, particularly lung disease (asthma, COPD), certain heart rhythm problems, heart disease (heart failure), kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, low blood flow to the brain, overactive thyroid, muscle weakness disorders, or severe allergies.

Consult your healthcare provider about using a new bottle of Timoptic XE if you experience an eye infection, injury, or have eye surgery.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Timoptic XE) before any surgery.

Timoptic XE may mask symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). Be aware of other symptoms like dizziness and sweating, and monitor your blood sugar levels regularly as directed by your healthcare provider. It may also make it harder to control blood sugar levels. Discuss any changes with your healthcare provider.

Timoptic XE may cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision clears.

Timoptic XE should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Timoptic XE passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
