Tazorac Cream is indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Plaque Psoriasis: Tazorac Cream is used on the skin to treat people with plaque psoriasis.
  2. Acne Vulgaris: Tazorac Cream is also used on the skin to treat people with acne vulgaris.

Do’s

  • Read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist before using Tazorac Cream and ask your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
  • Tazorac Cream is for use on the skin only. It should be applied as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily at bedtime.
  • For Psoriasis: Apply a thin film to cover only the psoriatic plaques. If a bath or shower is taken before application, ensure that the skin is dry before applying the cream. If a moisturizer is used, apply it at least an hour before applying the medication.
  • For Acne: Wash and dry the affected area(s) before applying enough to cover all of the affected area(s).
  • After applying the medication, wash your hands, unless you are treating your hands for psoriasis.
  • If the medication accidentally gets on areas you do not need to treat, it should be washed off to help prevent skin irritation.
  • Use this medication regularly at the same time each day to get the most benefit from it.
  • If your condition does not improve or worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Do not apply Tazorac Cream to skin that is cut, scraped, sunburned, or affected by certain other skin conditions such as eczema or seborrheic dermatitis.
  • Do not use large amounts or apply this medication more often or for longer than prescribed, as it may not improve the condition faster and may increase the risk of side effects.
  • Since this drug is absorbed through the skin and may harm an unborn baby, women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not handle this medication.

Mild Side effects:

  • Peeling
  • Drying
  • Painful, burning, or stinging sensations
  • Redness or discoloration
  • Itching
  • Swelling where the drug is applied
  • Cracking

These side effects are usually temporary and may be easy to manage. However, if they persist or become severe, consult with a healthcare provider.

Serious side effects of Tazorac Cream are not common but may include itching or other irritation of treated skin.

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects. Seek medical advice if any unusual or severe side effects occur while using Tazorac Cream.

Tazorac Cream should not be used by individuals who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. If a person becomes pregnant while using Tazorac Cream, they should stop using it and inform their healthcare provider immediately
