Steglujan is a combination of two drugs, ertugliflozin, and sitagliptin, used with a proper diet and exercise program to control high blood sugar in people with type 2 diabetes.

Controlling high blood sugar helps prevent various complications of diabetes, such as kidney damage, blindness, nerve problems, loss of limbs, sexual function problems, and may also lessen the risk of a heart attack or stroke.

Ertugliflozin works by increasing the removal of sugar by the kidneys, while sitagliptin works by increasing levels of natural substances called incretins. Incretins help to control blood sugar by increasing insulin release, especially after a meal, and by decreasing the amount of sugar the liver makes.

Steglujan is not for treating type 1 diabetes and should not be used in individuals with severe kidney disease, those on dialysis, or those with diabetic ketoacidosis.
