Silenor is a medication used to treat insomnia, a sleep disorder that causes difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep.

It can help you improve your sleep by allowing you to stay asleep for a longer duration and reducing the number of times you wake up at night.

Doxepin, the active ingredient in Silenor, belongs to a class of medications called tricyclic antidepressants. The exact way Silenor helps with sleep is not fully understood, but it may be due to its effect on histamine receptors in the brain. Histamine is a chemical that plays a role in wakefulness.

Do’s

  • Take Silenor by mouth on an empty stomach, as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once nightly.
