Salofalk Enema (Mesalamine)

Do’s

• Before starting the use of Salofalk Enema, read the patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist. This will provide you with important instructions and precautions specific to the medication.
• Salofalk Enema is administered rectally. It is usually used once daily at bedtime, but your healthcare provider may provide specific instructions based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• The dosage of Salofalk Enema will be determined by your healthcare provider. Follow their instructions regarding the amount of medication to be used.
• During the course of treatment with Salofalk Enema, drink plenty of fluids, unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider. This helps to prevent the formation of kidney stones.
• Before use, visually inspect the contents of the bottle. The medication should appear off-white to tan in color. A slight darkening is expected, but if the enema turns dark brown, it should be discarded
• Salofalk Enema works best if you have a bowel movement before using it. Shake the bottle well. Remove the cover from the applicator tip while holding the bottle at the neck. Lie on your left side with your right knee bent. Insert the tip of the bottle into the rectum, pointing toward the navel. Gently and steadily squeeze out the entire contents of the bottle. Remove the bottle and remain in position for 30 minutes. Try to keep the medication in the rectum for 8 hours.
• Salofalk Enema may stain surfaces it comes into contact with, such as clothing, floors, and countertops. Take precautions to avoid staining.
• To derive the most benefit from Salofalk Enema, use it regularly. Try to use it at the same time each day to help you remember.
• If your condition persists or worsens, inform your healthcare provider and seek their guidance.

• Lung side effects, such as spasms of the windpipes in the lungs
• Skin problems, such as sensitivity to sunlight, allergic reactions, and rash or itchy skin 
• Joint inflammation
• Gastrointestinal side effects, such as abdominal pain, cramps, discomfort, diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, vomiting, and stool abnormalities
• Urinary frequency
• Dyspepsia
• Bloating
• Constipation
• Abdominal distension

Not all individuals will experience these side effects, and if they do occur, they are usually mild and temporary.

Consult with your healthcare provider for more information about the potential side effects of Salofalk Enema and to discuss any concerns you may have.

Do not use Salofalk Enema if you are allergic to mesalazine (5-aminosalicylic acid) or any other ingredients in the enema.

Your healthcare provider may monitor your liver and kidney function regularly during treatment with Salofalk Enema.

Serious blood dyscrasias have been reported rarely with mesalazine. If you experience unexplained hemorrhages, bruises, purpura, or anemia, seek medical attention.

Salofalk Enema should not be used in patients with impaired renal function. If renal function deteriorates during treatment, the enemas should be discontinued immediately.

Salofalk Enema may cause dizziness or light-headedness in some individuals. If you experience these symptoms, avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you
