Prolopa CR (Levodopa/Benserazide)

Do's

• Take Prolopa CR capsules as directed by your healthcare provider. Follow the recommended dosage and frequency of use.
• Swallow the capsules whole. Do not crush or chew the capsules. If you have difficulty swallowing the capsule, you may open it and sprinkle the entire contents onto a small amount (1 to 2 tablespoons or 15 to 30 grams) of applesauce. Swallow the mixture without chewing it immediately. Do not prepare the mixture ahead of time for later use.
• Take Prolopa CR capsules with or without food, as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Take your doses of Prolopa CR capsules at the same times each day to maintain a consistent level of the medication in your body.
• If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible and continue with your regular dosing schedule. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular schedule. Do not double the dose to make up for a missed one.

Don'ts

• Do not crush or chew the Prolopa CR capsules. This can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Avoid high-protein diets, as they may reduce the absorption of the medication. Follow any dietary recommendations provided by your healthcare provider or healthcare provider.
• Do not take Prolopa CR capsules with a high-fat, high-calorie meal, as this can delay the onset of the medication's effects. Follow the instructions provided by the manufacturer, which suggest taking the first dose of the day about 1 to 2 hours before eating.
• Do not take other forms of carbidopa or levodopa without consulting your healthcare provider first.
• Do not stop taking Prolopa CR capsules without consulting your healthcare provider. Suddenly stopping the medication may worsen your condition or lead to withdrawal symptoms. Your healthcare provider may need to gradually reduce your dose.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Loss of appetite
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Insomnia
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Diarrhea
• Abdominal pain
• Fatigue
• Urinary problems

Serious Side Effects:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience these symptoms.
• Abnormal involuntary movements, which can occur with long-term use of Prolopa CR.
• Psychiatric disorders, including changes in mood, behavior, or thoughts.
• Cardiovascular effects, although less frequently reported.

Disclose any allergies to Carbidopa, Levodopa, or any ingredients in Prolopa CR.

Inform your healthcare provider about any pre-existing health problems, especially:

• Blood disorders
• Breathing problems (asthma, emphysema)
• Glaucoma
• Heart or blood vessel problems (irregular heartbeat, heart attack, angina)
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Mental/mood disorders (depression, schizophrenia)
• Stomach/intestinal ulcers
• Seizures
• Sleep disorders

Prolopa CR may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until these effects subside. Limit alcohol consumption and discuss marijuana use with your healthcare provider as these can worsen these side effects.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Prolopa CR) before any surgery.

Prolopa CR should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Levodopa, a component of Prolopa CR, passes into breast milk in small amounts and may affect milk production. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
