Prinivil (Lisinopril)

Do’s

• Take Prinivil exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, with or without food.
• If using the liquid form, shake well before each dose and measure accurately with a special measuring device.
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding starting dose and any gradual increases.
• Take Prinvil consistently, ideally at the same time each day.
• Continue taking Prinivil even if you feel well, as high blood pressure often has no symptoms.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition improves or worsens (including blood pressure readings).

Don'ts

• Don't use a household spoon for the liquid form; use the provided measuring device.
• Don't take more or less medication than prescribed.
• Don't stop taking Prinivil without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't expect immediate results for high blood pressure; it may take weeks for full effect.

Common side effects:

• Headache
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dizziness
• Weakness
• Cough
• Changes in taste
• Muscle pain
• Dry mouth
• Increased urination
• Numbness, tingling, or itching
• Sore throat
• Runny or stuffy nose

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Angioedema: swelling of the hands, face, lips, eyes, throat, or tongue; difficulty swallowing or breathing
• Eye problems such as myopia and angle-closure glaucoma
• Serious allergic reactions, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing
• Injury or death to the fetus if taken during pregnancy
• Worsening chest pain
• Fainting
• Pressure/fullness in the head
• Confusion
• Anxiety
• Vision problems
• Marked elevation of supine arterial blood pressure (supine hypertension)
• Symptoms of liver damage, including nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop, loss of appetite, stomach/abdominal pain, yellowing eyes/skin, dark urine
• Serious problems such as heart failure, blood vessel disease, stroke, or kidney disease if high blood pressure is not treated

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Prinivil,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider if you are allergic to Prinivil, other ACE inhibitors, or any ingredients in Prinivil.

History of allergic reactions, including swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat (angioedema).

Prinivil may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until you feel safe. Limit alcohol and marijuana use.

Severe sweating, diarrhea, or vomiting can lead to dehydration. Tell your healthcare provider if you experience these symptoms. Drink plenty of fluids unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.

Before having surgery, tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Prinivil.

Prinivil may increase your potassium levels. Consult your healthcare provider before using potassium supplements or salt substitutes containing potassium. Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects, especially dizziness and increased potassium levels.

Prinivil can harm an unborn baby. Do not become pregnant while using Prinivil. Tell your healthcare provider immediately if you become pregnant. It is unknown if Prinivil passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.

Prinivil can interact with other medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products.

Some medications that may interact with Prinivil include aliskiren, certain immunosuppressants, lithium, medications affecting potassium levels, sacubitril, cough-and-cold products, diet aids, NSAIDs, and allergy desensitization injections.

A very serious allergic reaction may occur if you are receiving allergy desensitization injections and taking Prinivil. Inform all your healthcare providers about your medications.
