Ongentys (Opicapone) is a catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor used to treat Parkinson's disease. Dopamine is a natural substance that is needed for normal brain function. It helps to control movement, motivation, and attention. People with Parkinson's disease have low levels of dopamine in their brains. The main ingredient of Ongentys is Opicapone. Opicapone is a catechol-o-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor. COMT is an enzyme that breaks down dopamine. COMT plays a role in the breakdown of neurotransmitters such as dopamine, adrenaline, and norepinephrine. Dopamine is a neurotransmitter that helps control movement, emotion, and behavior. Opicapone increases the amount of dopamine in the brain. This can improve symptoms of Parkinson’s disease, such as stiffness, tremors, and walking problems. Opicapone can also help relieve “OFF” periods during the day when Parkinson’s symptoms worsen.

  • Your blood pressure may need to be tested regularly.
  • Ongentys may cause you to fall asleep while working, talking, eating, or driving during the day. Even if you are awake, you may fall asleep unexpectedly. Inform your doctor if you have daytime tiredness or drowsiness.
