Seek medical attention if you experience any severe or persistent side effects while taking Nozinan.
This is not an exhaustive list of side effects, and other side effects may occur. Consult the prescribing information and discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider.
Nozinan may interact with certain medications such as citalopram, escitalopram, hydroxyzine, and piperaquine. Inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking, including prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal remedies.
Do not take Nozinan if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to levomepromazine maleate or any of the other ingredients of Nozinan tablets. Signs of an allergic reaction may include a rash, difficulty swallowing or breathing, and swelling of the lips or face.
Avoid using Nozinan during pregnancy as a precautionary measure. Neonates should be closely monitored if the mother receives Nozinan treatment at the end of pregnancy.
Levomepromazine, the active ingredient in Nozinan, is excreted in breast milk in low amounts. A decision should be made whether to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue/abstain from Nozinan therapy, taking into account the benefit of breastfeeding for the child and the benefit of therapy for the woman.
Nozinan has been associated with a rare idiosyncratic response called neuroleptic malignant syndrome. This syndrome is characterized by symptoms such as hypothermia, muscle rigidity, autonomic instability, altered consciousness, and increased serum creatine phosphokinase levels. If you experience these symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
Nozinan may cause orthostatic hypotension, which is a drop in blood pressure upon standing up. Patients starting treatment with Nozinan should be cautious when changing positions and may need to stay in bed during the first few days of treatment.
Prolonged therapy at high doses of Nozinan may lead to extrapyramidal effects, such as abnormal involuntary movements. These reactions can be corrected by reducing the dose of Nozinan or by administering an antiparkinsonian agent.
Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice and discuss any specific concerns or questions you may have regarding the use of Nozinan.
