Norpramin (Desipramine) is used to treat depression. This medication is not recommended for use in children younger than 18 years due to the risk of serious side effects.

In addition to treating depression, Norpramin (Desipramine) has been used off-label for other conditions such as panic attacks, insomnia, neuropathic pain, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and symptoms of hyperactivity and impulsivity in patients with ADHD when traditional medications are ineffective.

Desipramine, as a tricyclic antidepressant, works by increasing the amounts of certain natural substances in the brain that are needed for mental balance. This mechanism of action is crucial in understanding how it addresses the symptoms of depression.

Do’s

  • Take Norpramin exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, with or without food.
  • Follow your healthcare provider's instructions on dosage and frequency. They may start you low and gradually increase the dose.
  • Take Norpramin consistently at the same time(s) each day for best results.
