Nitrostat (nitroglycerin) sublingual tablets are indicated for the acute relief of an attack or acute prophylaxis of angina pectoris due to coronary artery disease. Angina is a type of chest pain that occurs when part of the heart does not receive enough blood. Nitrostat works by dilating (widening) blood vessels, making it easier for blood to flow through them and easier for the heart to pump.

Do’s

  • Before starting Nitrostat, read the patient information leaflet provided by your pharmacist. If you have any questions, consult your healthcare provider.
  • Sit down before taking Nitrostat to avoid dizziness or lightheadedness.
  • Take one tablet of Nitrostat and place it under your tongue. Allow it to dissolve as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • The dosage of Nitrostat is determined based on your medical condition and how you respond to the treatment. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the appropriate dosage.
  • If you are using Nitrostat to prevent chest pain before engaging in physical activities, take the medication 5 to 10 minutes before the activity.
  • If you are using Nitrostat to relieve chest pain that has already occurred, take it as soon as possible. If your chest pain does not improve or worsens 5 minutes after taking the medication, call emergency medical help (911). After calling for help, you may take another dose. If the chest pain persists after 5 minutes and the ambulance has not arrived, you may take a third dose.

  • Do not chew or swallow the tablet.
  • Do not use more than 3 doses during an attack unless directed by your healthcare provider.
