Motegrity (Prucalopride Succinate)

Do’s

• Before starting to take Motegrity, read the Patient Information Leaflet if available from your pharmacist. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider.
• The usual dose of Motegrity for the treatment of chronic idiopathic constipation (CIC) in adults is 2 milligrams orally once a day.
• The dosage may be based on your age, medical condition, and response to treatment.
• Take Motegrity by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once a day.
• Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. Taking it at the same time each day can help you remember.
• If relief of constipation is not experienced after 3 to 4 days, inform your healthcare provider.
• Your healthcare provider may recommend temporarily taking additional medication (such as a stimulant laxative) along with Motegrity for fast relief of constipation. If additional medication is recommended, carefully follow your healthcare provider’s directions for use.
• Consult your healthcare provider regarding the duration of taking Motegrity and any other prescribed medications for constipation.

Common Side Effects:

• Abdominal pain
• Bloating
• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Dizziness
• Vomiting
• Gas
• Fatigue

Serious Side Effects:

• Unusual changes in mood or behavior
• Thoughts of hurting oneself or suicide

Not all individuals may experience these side effects, and some may need medical attention. If you experience ongoing symptoms or any side effects that bother you, talk with your healthcare provider. 

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to Motegrity or have any other allergies. This medication may contain inactive ingredients (such as lactose) that can cause allergic reactions or other problems. Discuss any allergies with your healthcare provider for more details.

Before using this medication, inform your healthcare provider about your medical history, especially if you have diabetes, heart problems (such as irregular heartbeat, previous heart attack), kidney problems, liver disease, mental/mood problems, or other stomach/abdominal disorders (such as intestinal perforation/obstruction, ileus, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis).

Motegrity may cause dizziness. Avoid consuming alcohol or marijuana (cannabis) as they can intensify this effect. Refrain from driving, using machinery, or engaging in activities that require alertness until you can safely do so. Limit alcoholic beverages and consult your healthcare provider if you are using marijuana (cannabis).

Before having surgery, ensure that you inform your healthcare providers about all the products you use, including prescription drugs, nonprescription drugs, and herbal products.

During pregnancy, this medication should be used only when clearly needed. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare providers before proceeding.

Be mindful that drug interactions may change how your medications work or increase your risk for serious side effects. Ensure that you keep a comprehensive list of all the products you use (including prescription/nonprescription drugs and herbal products) and share it with your healthcare provider. Do not start, stop, or change the dosage of any medicines without your healthcare provider's approval. A product that may interact with Motegrity is pramlintide.
