Do's

  • Read the patient information leaflet before starting Minocin if available from your pharmacist. Ask your healthcare provider if you have any questions.
  • Take Minocin on an empty stomach. It is usually taken by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, typically every 12 hours, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after a meal.
  • Take Minocin with a full glass of water unless directed otherwise by your healthcare provider.
  • Take Minocin with food or milk if you experience an upset stomach but consult your healthcare provider regarding this.
  • Take Minocin 2 to 3 hours before or after products containing aluminum, calcium, iron, magnesium, or zinc as these products can bind with Minocin, preventing your body from fully absorbing the drug.
  • Take the antibiotic at evenly spaced times for the best effect.
  • Take Minocin at the same times every day to help remember.
  • Continue taking Minocin until the full prescribed amount is finished, even if symptoms disappear after a few days.

Don'ts

  • Don't stop taking Minocin without your healthcare provider’s approval as stopping it too early may result in a return of the infection.

The dosage and length of treatment are based on your medical condition and response to treatment.

  • Swollen tongue, cough, trouble swallowing
  • Rash, itching
  • Headache
  • Central nervous system effects such as light-headedness, dizziness, and vertigo
  • Sun sensitivity (photosensitivity), leading to a worse sunburn
  • Feeling very tired

This is not a complete list of side effects, and others may occur. If you experience any unusual symptoms, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

You should not take Minocin if you are allergic to minocycline or to similar antibiotics such as demeclocycline, doxycycline, or tetracycline. If you are unsure about potential allergies, consult your healthcare provider for guidance.

Minocin is not recommended for pregnant women or children up to 8 years old, as it may harm an unborn baby and permanently turn a baby's or child's teeth yellow-gray-brown during tooth development. Inform your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, as well as if you are breastfeeding.

Before starting Minocin, inform your healthcare provider about all of your medical conditions, including liver or kidney problems.

Minocin may interact with other medications, such as antacids that contain aluminum, calcium, magnesium, or iron-containing products. Ask your healthcare provider for a list of these medications if you are not sure.

Minocin may cause central nervous system effects such as convulsions, dizziness, hypesthesia, paresthesia, sedation, and vertigo. Be aware of these potential effects and seek medical advice if you experience any unusual symptoms.
