Mestinon SR (Pyridostigmine)

Do’s

• Mestinon SR is taken by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider.
• Take the tablet as directed by your healthcare provider, usually 1 to 2 times daily, with at least 6 hours between doses.
• Swallow the whole or split tablet without crushing or chewing, unless they have a score line and your healthcare provider tells you to do so.
• The dosage of Mestinon SR is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• Use Mestinon SR regularly to get the most benefit from it.
• The tablet may become discolored due to moisture, but this does not affect how well the medication works.
• If your condition does not improve or gets worse, consult your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

• Do not crush or chew the tablets, as doing so can release all of the drug at once, increasing the risk of side effects.
• Do not increase your dose or use this drug more often or for longer than prescribed.

Common Side Effects:

• Gastrointestinal effects, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and increased salivation
• Muscle weakness or twitching
• Excessive sweating, especially in hot weather or during physical activity
• Urinary frequency
• Dizziness or fainting

Allergic Reactions: 

• Although rare, allergic reactions to Mestinon SR can occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing.
