Maxidex Suspension (dexamethasone ophthalmic suspension) is indicated for the treatment of various steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye, including:

  1. Conjunctiva and Cornea: Maxidex is used to treat conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, and selected infective conjunctivitis when the benefits of steroid use outweigh the risks.
  2. Anterior Segment of the Eye: Maxidex is used to treat conditions like iritis, cyclitis, herpes zoster keratitis, and corneal injury from chemical, radiation, or thermal burns, or penetration of foreign bodies.
  3. Post-Operative Use: Maxidex is also indicated for post-operative use to reduce inflammatory reactions and suppress graft reactions.

Do’s

  • The dosage of Maxidex Suspension is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the dosage.
  • Maxidex Suspension is typically used as directed by your healthcare provider. Apply the medication as often as prescribed.
  • Use the medication regularly and at the same time(s) each day to get the most benefit from it.
  • Before applying Maxidex Suspension, wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Shake the bottle well before using it to ensure proper mixing.
  • Tilt your head back, look upward, and pull down the lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and place 1 drop into the pouch.
  • Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes. Place one finger at the corner of your eye (near the nose) and apply gentle pressure. This helps prevent the medication from draining out.
  • If you are using other eye medications, such as other drops or ointments, wait at least 5 to 10 minutes before applying Maxidex Suspension. This allows the previous medication to enter the eye before using Maxidex Suspension.
  • After applying Maxidex Suspension, wait several minutes for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
  • Use Maxidex Suspension for the full duration prescribed by your healthcare provider.
  • If your condition does not improve within a few days or if it worsens, consult your healthcare provider for further evaluation and guidance.

Don’ts

  • Do not touch the dropper tip or let it touch your eye or any other surface to avoid contamination.
  • Avoid blinking or rubbing your eyes after application.
  • Do not wear contact lenses while using Maxidex Suspension unless otherwise directed by your healthcare provider. If your healthcare provider approves the wearing of contact lenses during treatment, remove the lenses before using the eye drops. The preservative in the product may be absorbed by contact lenses. Wait at least 15 minutes after each dose of the eye drops before wearing the lenses again.
  • Do not stop using the medication without consulting your healthcare provider, as some conditions may worsen if the drug is suddenly stopped. Your healthcare provider may gradually decrease the dose if needed.
  • Do not use Maxidex Suspension if it becomes contaminated, such as if the drops turn a dark color. Using contaminated eye medication can cause infection, serious damage to the eye, and loss of vision. If you suspect contamination, contact your healthcare provider for further guidance.
