Lysodren (Mitotane)

Do’s

• Take Lysodren exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including dosage, frequency (usually 3-4 times daily), and fatty food.
• Swallow the tablets whole. Do not crush, chew, or break them.
• Wear disposable gloves while handling Lysodren to avoid skin contact with the medication.
• Wash your skin thoroughly with soap and water if you touch crushed or broken tablets.
• Take your next missed dose at the regular time; skip the missed dose if you vomit after taking it.
• Take Lysodren consistently to experience its full benefits. Try taking it at the same time each day.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens.

Don'ts

• Don't adjust your dosage or take Lysodren more often or for longer than prescribed.
• Don't handle Lysodren if you're pregnant or trying to conceive, as it can harm the unborn baby.
• Don't breathe in dust from the tablets.

Common side effects may include:

• Depressed mood
• Dizziness
• Spinning sensation
• Rash

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Blurred or double vision
• Confusion, problems with speech, balance, or walking
• Light-headed feeling, like you might pass out
• Pelvic pain, vaginal bleeding
• Easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums)
• Any bleeding that will not stop

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Lysodren,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to mitotane or inactive ingredients.

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Liver disease
• Kidney disease
• Bleeding problems

Lysodren can weaken your immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. Avoid people with contagious illnesses and consult your healthcare provider if exposed.

Avoid immunizations/vaccinations without your healthcare provider's consent. Avoid contact with people who recently received live vaccines.

Be cautious with sharp objects and avoid contact sports to minimize the risk of cuts, bruises, or injuries.

Lysodren may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until the effects wear off. Limit alcohol and marijuana use which can worsen these effects.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Lysodren) before any surgery.

Lysodren can harm an unborn baby. Women who are pregnant, or may become pregnant, should not handle this medication or breathe the dust from the tablets. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before pregnancy and use reliable non-hormonal birth control while on Lysodren and for some time after the last dose. Your healthcare provider will advise you when to stop birth control.

Lysodren passes into breast milk and may harm a nursing infant. Breastfeeding is not recommended while using this medication and for some time after the last dose. Your healthcare provider will advise you when it's safe to breastfeed again.
