Lozol (indapamide) is indicated for the following:

  • Treatment of High Blood Pressure: Lozol is used to treat high blood pressure, either alone or in combination with other antihypertensive drugs.
  • Treatment of Salt and Fluid Retention: It is also indicated for the treatment of salt and fluid retention associated with congestive heart failure.

Lozol belongs to the group of medications known as diuretics or "water pills" and works by preventing the kidney from reabsorbing salt and water that is destined to be eliminated in the urine.

Do’s

  • Lozol is typically taken by mouth with or without food, as directed by a healthcare provider. The usual recommendation is to take it once daily in the morning.
  • If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol, such as bile acid-binding resins like cholestyramine or colestipol, take Lozol at least 4 hours before or after these medications.
  • The dosage of Lozol is generally based on an individual's medical condition and their response to the treatment. Take this medication regularly to obtain the most benefit from it.
  • Even if you feel well, continue taking this medication, as it may take several weeks before the full benefit of the drug is realized.
  • If there is no improvement in the condition or if it worsens, such as if blood pressure readings remain high or increase, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Avoid taking this medication too close to bedtime to minimize the need to wake up during the night to urinate.
  • Drowsiness, lack of energy, feeling tired
  • Leg cramps, muscle weakness, or limp feeling
  • Severe weakness, loss of coordination, feeling unsteady
  • Fast or irregular heartbeats, fluttering in your chest, feeling restless
  • Numbness or tingling
  • Vomiting, constipation
  • Headache, confusion, slurred speech
  • A light-headed feeling, like you might pass out
  • Dry mouth, increased thirst
  • Little or no urinating
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness, tiredness
  • Back pain, muscle cramps
  • Feeling anxious or agitated
  • Headache
  • Runny nose

This is not an exhaustive list of side effects, and others may occur. If any of these side effects occur and persist, seek medical advice.

The routine use of diuretics in an otherwise healthy woman is inappropriate and exposes the mother and fetus to unnecessary hazards. Diuretics do not prevent the development of toxemia in pregnancy, and there is no satisfactory evidence that they are useful in the treatment of developed toxemia.

If a dose of Lozol is missed or if an overdose is suspected, seek medical advice. In case of a missed dose, take the medication exactly as directed on the label or as prescribed by your healthcare provider. In case of an overdose, medical advice should be sought immediately.

When taking Lozol, inform the healthcare provider about all other medications being taken. Certain medications may interact with Lozol, and dosage adjustments or other precautions may be necessary when taking it in combination with other drugs.

Lozol may have specific considerations for individuals with varying degrees of renal impairment. Additionally, if the antihypertensive response to indapamide is insufficient, it may be combined with other antihypertensive drugs, with careful monitoring of blood pressure. It is recommended that the usual dose of other agents be reduced by 50% during initial combination therapy.

Individuals who are allergic to indapamide or sulfa drugs, or those who are unable to urinate, should not use Lozol.

These warnings and precautions are important to consider before using Lozol, and individuals should always consult with a healthcare provider for personalized advice and guidance.
