Lotemax Gel (Loteprednol)

Do’s

• Use Lotemax exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically 4 times a day.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before applying the medication.
• Remove contact lenses before using Lotemax and wait for your healthcare provider's approval before wearing them again.
• Apply the eye gel as directed:
  • Shake the bottle upside down once to fill the tip.
  • Pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch.
  • Place the prescribed number of gel into the pouch.
  • Gently close your eye and roll your eyeball to spread the medication.
  • Avoid blinking or rubbing your eye.
• Repeat for the other eye if instructed.
• Use other eye medications with at least a 5-10 minute gap between applications. Apply gel before gels.
• Wait for your vision to clear before driving or operating machinery.
• Use Lotemax consistently, at the same times each day.
• Continue using Lotemax for the entire prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or doesn't improve after a few days of using Lotemax.

Don'ts

• Don't use Lotemax more often than prescribed or increase your dosage.
• Don't use Lotemax if it appears contaminated (discolored or with particles).
• Don't stop using Lotemax abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't touch the bottle tip to your eye or any other surface.
• Don't use Lotemax while wearing contact lenses unless your healthcare provider approves it.

Common side effects of Lotemax gel may include:

• Blurred vision
• Eye irritation or discomfort
• Eye redness
• Watery eyes
• Sensation of something in the eye
• Eye itching
• Dry eyes
• Increased sensitivity to light
• Headache

Serious side effects of Lotemax gel may include:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or difficulty breathing
• Eye pain or increased eye pressure
• Vision changes or loss of vision
• Eye infection or inflammation
• Cataracts or glaucoma (with prolonged use or high doses)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Lotemax gel, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Talk to your healthcare provider about any allergies, especially to loteprednol or any inactive ingredients.

Inform your healthcare provider of your medical history, particularly regarding:

• Eye infections
• Cataracts
• Glaucoma
• Severe nearsightedness (myopia)
• Diabetes

Lotemax gel may cause temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision returns to normal.

Disclose all medications you take (prescription, over-the-counter, and herbal) to your healthcare provider or dentist before surgery.

Consult your healthcare provider if you develop a new eye infection, or injury, or require eye surgery. They will advise you on continuing or starting a new bottle of Lotemax gel.

Lotemax gel should only be used during pregnancy if clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.
