Do’s

Lopid is usually taken twice a day, 30 minutes before your morning and evening meals. 

The dosage of Lopid depends on your specific medical condition and your response to treatment. Your healthcare provider will determine the most appropriate dose for you.

If you're also taking bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol, take Lopid at least 1 hour before or at least 4-6 hours after taking these medications. This is because these drugs can interact with Lopid, preventing it from being fully absorbed into your system.

To get the most benefit from this medication, take it regularly and at the same times each day. 

Even if you feel well, keep taking this medication as high cholesterol and triglycerides often don't cause noticeable symptoms. It may take up to 3 months before you experience the full benefit of this drug.

Continue to follow your healthcare provider's advice about diet and exercise. These lifestyle changes complement the effect of Lopid and help manage your cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Common Side Effects: 

Indigestion

Stomach pain

Diarrhea

Loss of interest in sex or impotence 

Serious Side Effects: 

Signs of infection (such as a persistent sore throat or fever)

Easy bruising or bleeding

Unusual tiredness

Irregular heartbeat

Numbness/tingling of the arms or legs 

Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience any serious side effects.

Allergic Reactions: 

While rare, a serious allergic reaction to Lopid can occur. Seek immediate medical help if you notice symptoms such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

Other Effects: 

Symptoms of kidney or liver problems

Unusual tiredness or weakness

Symptoms of muscle breakdown

Severe stomach pain with nausea and vomiting

Consult your healthcare provider if you experience any of the symptoms listed above.

Report any side effects to your healthcare provider, as they can provide guidance and determine the best course of action. Always seek medical advice if you have concerns about the side effects of Lopid.

You should not take Lopid if you have severe liver or kidney disease, gallbladder disease, or if you are also taking repaglinide, dasabuvir, or simvastatin. Inform your healthcare provider about any history of gallstones or if you also take warfarin (Coumadin, Jantoven).

If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss the potential risks with your healthcare provider, as it is not known whether Lopid may harm an unborn baby. Similarly, if you are breastfeeding, consult your healthcare provider about any potential risks associated with using this medicine.

Lopid can interact with other drugs due to its high binding to plasma proteins. Discuss all medications you are taking with your healthcare provider to avoid potential interactions.
