Livial (Tibolone)

Do’s

• Take Livial exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
• Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew them.
• Take Livial with or without food.
• Be aware that it may take several weeks or months to experience the full benefits of Livial.
• Continue taking Livial even if you feel well. It helps manage menopausal symptoms and reduce the risk of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
• Maintain a healthy lifestyle with a balanced diet and regular exercise as recommended by your healthcare provider.
• Tell your healthcare provider about all your medications and herbal products you are taking, including prescription and over-the-counter drugs.

Don'ts

• Don't take more or less Livial than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't skip or stop taking Livial without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't crush, chew, or break the tablets.
• Don't take Livial if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Don't take Livial if you have a history of blood clots, undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, or certain types of cancer.

Common Side Effects:

• Bleeding or spotting between menstrual periods
• Breast pain or tenderness
• Weight gain
• Headache
• Nausea
• Vaginal discharge or itching
• Mood changes
• Acne
• Hair loss or excessive hair growth
• Abdominal pain or discomfort

Serious Side Effects:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Unusual vaginal bleeding or spotting
• Changes in cervical cells (cervical dysplasia)
• Breast changes or lumps
• Signs of blood clots, such as leg pain or swelling, chest pain, or shortness of breath
• Liver problems, including yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, or persistent nausea
• Mood changes or depression

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Livial,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies you have, particularly to tibolone or any inactive ingredients in Livial.

Disclose your medical history to your healthcare provider before using Livial, especially if you have:

• Undiagnosed vaginal bleeding
• Liver or kidney disease
• History of stroke or heart attack
• Migraines with aura
• High blood pressure
• Endometriosis

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including Livial, before any surgery or medical procedures.

Livial is not recommended during pregnancy as it can harm the developing baby. Discuss alternative therapies with your healthcare provider if pregnant or planning to become pregnant.

It is unknown if Livial passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while using Livial.

Limit alcohol intake while using Livial, as it can increase the risk of developing lactic acidosis, a buildup of lactic acid in the blood.

Livial may not be effective for all women and may take some time to show improvement in symptoms.

Regular checkups with your healthcare provider are recommended to monitor your progress and address any concerns.

Livial may increase the risk of blood clots, especially in women with a history of blood clots or certain risk factors (e.g., prolonged bed rest, smoking, obesity).

While the information is limited, there's a possibility that Livial may slightly increase the risk of breast cancer. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider, especially if you have a family history of breast cancer.
