DrugDescription: This medication is used to treat fluid retention (edema) in patients with liver disease, congestive heart failure, or a kidney disorder such as nephritic syndrome. Lasix (Furosemide) is also used to treat patients with high blood pressure (hypertension). This medication works by preventing the body from absorbing too much salt by allowing the salt to be passed in urine.This medication should be stored at room temperature. Keep the medication away from light, heat and moisture. Read the directions on the prescription label and pamphlet. Do not take larger doses than prescribed by your doctor. Do not take this medication longer than recommended by your doctor. To ensure you are getting the best results, your doctor may change your dosage occasionally. Patients taking Lasix (Furosemide) to treat high blood pressure often do not experience any symptoms. Continue taking the medication even if you feel fine. Do not use Lasix (Furosemide) if you are not able to urinate.Inform your doctor about the following before taking Lasix (Furosemide): if you have liver disease, gout, kidney disease, lupus, diabetes, or an allergy to sulfa drugs and if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Your doctor will direct you in the type and amount of liquids you should consume while on this medication.Severe: Feeling weak, drowsy, light-headed, or restless; urinating less than usual or not at all; fast or uneven heartbeats; hearing loss; dry mouth, thirst, nausea, vomiting; muscle pain or weakness; easy bruising or bleeding, unusual weakness; nausea, stomach pain, low fever, loss of appetite, dark urine, clay-colored stools, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes); or a red blistering, peeling skin rash. Common: Headache; blurred vision; diarrhea, constipation, or stomach pain; dizziness; or numbness, burning, pain, or tingly feeling.Other: None.
