Glyxambi is indicated for the following purposes:

  1. Lowering Blood Sugar Levels: Glyxambi is used to lower blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It may be used when diet and exercise alone do not provide adequate blood sugar level control, either alone or with certain other medicines for diabetes such as metformin.
  2. Adjunct to Diet and Exercise: It is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in individuals with type 2 diabetes.
  3. Reducing the Risk of Death from Heart Disease: Glyxambi can also lower the risk of death from heart disease in certain people with type 2 diabetes.

Glyxambi contains two different active ingredients, empagliflozin and linagliptin. Empagliflozin belongs to a group of medicines called SGLT2 inhibitors, while linagliptin is a dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. These components work together to help lower blood sugar levels.

Be aware of any unusual symptoms and report them to your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider for personalized advice and discuss any concerns about the potential side effects of Glyxambi.

Glyxambi may interact with other drugs, and a healthcare provider should be consulted before taking any drug, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.

Glyxambi is specifically for adults with Type 2 diabetes mellitus and is not for treating Type 1 diabetes.

Before initiating Glyxambi and as clinically indicated, renal function should be assessed. It is not recommended for use in patients with an estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) less than 30 mL/min/1.73 m² and is contraindicated in patients on dialysis.

In patients with volume depletion, this condition should be corrected before initiating Glyxambi.

Glyxambi may increase the risk of diabetic ketoacidosis in certain patients, and it has not been studied in patients with a history of pancreatitis. It is unknown whether patients with a history of pancreatitis are at an increased risk for the development of pancreatitis while using Glyxambi.

There are additional factors to consider, such as hypersensitivity to the medication, coadministration with insulin secretagogues or insulin, and the need to withhold Glyxambi for at least 3 days prior to major surgery or procedures associated with prolonged fasting.

Discuss any concerns about these warnings and precautions with a healthcare provider before starting or while taking Glyxambi. Always seek medical advice if you have any questions or concerns about this medication.
