Flovent HFA (Fluticasone Propionate)

Do's

• Shake the inhaler for 5 seconds before each use. 
• Inhale the medication by mouth as directed by your healthcare provider, typically twice daily. 
• Wait at least 1 minute between each inhaler if using other inhalers and use Flovent HFA last.  
• Gargle and rinse your mouth with water after each use to prevent dryness, hoarseness, and oral yeast infections. 
• Use Flovent HFA regularly and at the same time each day for maximum benefit. 
• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions if you're already taking a different oral corticosteroid to stop it safely.  
• Clean the inhaler regularly as directed and discard it after using the prescribed number of inhalations. 
• Consult your healthcare provider if you have trouble using the inhaler.  
• Inform your healthcare provider if your symptoms don't improve or worsen. 
• Know which inhalers are for daily use (controllers) and which are for sudden breathing problems (quick-relief). 
• Consult your healthcare provider immediately if your breathing problems worsen. 

Don'ts

• Don't change the dose or stop using Flovent HFA without talking to your healthcare provider first. 
• Don't swallow the rinse water after gargling and rinsing your mouth. 

The precise dosage of Flovent HFA depends on your individual needs. Children may benefit from a spacer device and face mask. It may take up to 2 weeks or longer to feel the full effects of the medication. 

Common side effects may include:

• Upper respiratory tract infection
• Throat, nose, and/or sinus irritation
• Nausea and vomiting
• Cough and/or persistent cough
• Fever
• Headache
• Upset stomach
• Diarrhea
• Difficulty speaking

Serious side effects that may occur, although less common, include:

• White patches in the mouth and throat (indicative of fungal infections like thrush)
• Bone pain
• Diarrhea
• Earache
• Fever
• Lower abdominal or stomach pain
• Nausea
• Pain on passing urine
• Redness or discharge of the eye, eyelid, or lining of the eye
• Sore throat
• Trouble swallowing

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Flovent HFA,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Tell your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to fluticasone or its ingredients.

Share your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially regarding infections, eye problems, bone loss, and liver disease.

Floticasone might mask infection symptoms, making you more susceptible or worsening existing ones. Avoid people with contagious diseases.

If you recently switched from oral corticosteroids, you might experience reduced stress tolerance. Inform your healthcare provider before surgeries, emergencies, or serious illnesses.

Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you use, including Flovent HFA, before any surgery or dental procedure.

Long-term use in children might slightly slow growth. Regular healthcare provider visits are crucial to monitor growth.

Flovent HFA should only be used during pregnancy if the benefits outweigh the risks. Discuss with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider regarding the safety of using Flovent HFA while breastfeeding.
