Florinef (Fludrocortisone Acetate)

Do's

• Take this medication by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, typically once daily. 
• Follow the dosing schedule carefully and take this medication exactly as prescribed. 
• Take the medication at the same time each day to help remember. 
• Mark your calendar with a reminder if taking it on a schedule other than every day (such as only 3 days a week). 
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition lasts or worsens. 
• Contact your healthcare provider promptly if you experience side effects such as stomach upset, headache, or menstrual changes. 
• Take the missed dose of Florinef as soon as you remember.  

• Skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time if it is near the time of the next dose. 

Don'ts

• Do not increase or decrease your dose, take this drug more often, or stop taking this medication without your healthcare provider's approval as some conditions may become worse when the drug is suddenly stopped. 
• Do not double the dose if you miss one to catch up. 

Your healthcare provider will adjust your dose to the one that is best for you. The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment. Your dose may need to be gradually decreased. 

Common side effects:

• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Dry mouth
• Constipation
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Increased sweating
• Changes in appetite or weight
• Weakness or tiredness

Serious side effects:

Although rare, certain side effects require immediate medical attention. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you experience any of the following:

• Allergic reaction: Rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face, tongue, or throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.
• High blood pressure
• Irregular heartbeat
• Difficulty urinating
• Severe abdominal pain
• Unusual bleeding or bruising
• Signs of infection (e.g., fever, chills, sore throat)
• Mental/mood changes (e.g., depression, anxiety, confusion)
• Vision problems

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Florinef,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Before taking  Florinef, it is important to be aware of certain warnings and precautions:

1. Discontinuation: Do not stop taking Florinef abruptly without consulting your healthcare provider, as it can cause loss of appetite, weight loss, weakness, fatigue, and other symptoms.
2. Fluid Retention: Florinef may cause fluid retention, leading to swelling, weight gain, and increased blood pressure. Monitor your weight and blood pressure regularly while taking Florinef.
3. Potassium Loss: Florinef can cause excessive potassium loss, leading to muscle weakness. Your healthcare provider may recommend potassium supplements to counteract this effect.
4. Glaucoma: Florinef may increase the pressure in the eyes and worsen glaucoma. Inform your healthcare provider if you have glaucoma or any other eye conditions.
5. Infections: Florinef can weaken the immune system, making you more susceptible to infections. Take precautions to avoid exposure to infections and promptly report any signs of infection to your healthcare provider.
6. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: The use of Florinef during pregnancy or breastfeeding should be discussed with a healthcare provider, as it may pose risks to the fetus or infant.
