FIRMAGON is a prescription medicine used in the treatment of advanced prostate cancer. It is not known if this drug is safe or effective in children. Do not receive FIRMAGON if you are allergic to degarelix or any ingredient in it.
Please read the instructions before using FIRMAGON (degarelix for injection).
Follow your doctor's prescription exactly. A healthcare provider will give you an injection of FIRMAGON in the stomach area. The injection site will change within the stomach each time.
Your first dose includes 2 injections. After that, you will receive 1 injection each month. Do not rub or scratch the injection site. Keep the area free from pressure caused by belts, waistbands, or tight clothing.
Always schedule your next appointment in advance to ensure you receive your injection on time.
What are the ingredients in FIRMAGON?
Active ingredient: degarelix (as acetate) Inactive ingredient: mannitolCommon side effects include pain, redness, and swelling at the injection site. Other common side effects are weight gain, hot flashes, and increased liver enzyme levels. Some people may also experience a decreased sex drive and erectile function problems.
Serious allergic reactions may occur. Get medical help right away if you have trouble breathing, wheezing, severe itching, or swelling of your face, lips, mouth, or tongue.
FIRMAGON may also affect your heart’s electrical activity. Your doctor may check for long QT syndrome during treatment.

Before you take FIRMAGON, tell your healthcare provider if you:
- have heart problems, including long QT syndrome
- have abnormal blood levels of sodium, potassium, calcium, or magnesium
- have kidney or liver problems
- are pregnant or planning to become pregnant. FIRMAGON may harm your unborn baby or cause miscarriage.
- are breastfeeding or planning to breastfeed. It is unknown if FIRMAGON passes into breast milk. You should not breastfeed while taking FIRMAGON.
Tell your healthcare provider about all the medicines you take, including prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
