Feldene Flash (Piroxicam)

Do’s

• Read the Medication Guide: Before starting or refilling Feldene, carefully read the information provided by your healthcare provider. Ask your healthcare provider if anything is unclear.
• Take as Directed: Follow your healthcare provider's instructions exactly regarding dosage and frequency. It's usually once daily with a full glass of water.
• Take with Food or Milk: To minimize stomach upset, take Feldene with food, milk, or an antacid.
• Start with the Lowest Effective Dose: Take the lowest dose that controls your symptoms effectively to reduce the risk of side effects.
• Take for Shortest Possible Time: Only take Feldene for as long as necessary to manage your condition.
• Take "As Needed" at First Signs of Pain: If using Feldene "as needed" for pain, take it as soon as pain starts. It may be less effective if you wait until the pain worsens.
• Allow Time for Full Benefit: It may take several weeks of regular use to experience the full effects of Feldene.
• Inform healthcare provider of Worsening Condition: Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after taking Feldene.

Don'ts

• Don't Lie Down After Taking: Avoid lying down for at least 10 minutes after taking Feldene.
• Don't take with Alcohol: Avoid consuming alcohol while taking Feldene, as it can increase the risk of stomach upset
• Don't Increase Dose or Take More Often: Don't adjust your dosage or take Feldene more frequently than prescribed.

Common side effects of Feldene Flash (flutamide) may include:

• Abnormal liver function tests
• Urination problems
• Upset stomach, heartburn, loss of appetite, stomach pain, nausea, vomiting
• Gas, diarrhea, constipation
• Dizziness, headache
• Itching, rash
• Ringing in the ears

Serious side effects of Feldene Flash may include:

• Nausea/vomiting that doesn't stop
• Loss of appetit
• Dark urine, stomach/abdominal pain
• Yellowing of the eyes/skin.
• Allergic reaction: A very serious allergic reaction to Feldene Flash is rare but can occur. Seek medical help right away if you notice symptoms such as fever, swollen lymph nodes, rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing.

• Before taking piroxicam, tell your healthcare provider if you have any allergies to it or other NSAIDs like aspirin or ibuprofen.
• Tell your healthcare provider about your medical history especially if you have asthma, bleeding problems, heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, stroke, or stomach problems.
• Piroxicam may cause kidney problems, dizziness, drowsiness, or stomach bleeding. Avoid alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco while taking this medication.
• Piroxicam may increase your sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure and use sunscreen and protective clothing.
• Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you use before surgery.
• Older adults are at higher risk for side effects while taking piroxicam.
• Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult their healthcare provider before taking piroxicam. It may cause problems with the developing baby and is not recommended after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
• Piroxicam passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
