Esbriet (pirfenidone) tablets are indicated for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), a lung disease that causes scarring and affects breathing. It helps slow the progression of IPF by reducing lung fibrosis.
It is not known if Esbriet is safe or effective for children.

Follow your doctor's prescription exactly. Take Esbriet (pirfenidone) with food at the same time each day to reduce nausea and dizziness. Your doctor may adjust your dose as needed.
If prescribed the 267 mg capsule or tablet:
- Take 1 tablet or capsule 3 times daily from days 1 to 7. Take 2 tablets or capsules 3 times daily from days 8 to 14. Take 3 tablets or capsules 3 times daily starting on day 15.
- Take 1 tablet 3 times daily.
What are the ingredients in Esbriet film-coated tablets?
Active ingredient: pirfenidone Inactive ingredients: microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, povidone, croscarmellose sodium, magnesium stearate, polyvinyl alcohol, titanium dioxide, macrogol (polyethylene glycol), talc, and iron oxideCommon Side Effects: Esbriet (pirfenidone) may cause fatigue, trouble sleeping, headaches, dizziness, and sinus infections. Some people experience upper respiratory infections, weight loss, or decreased appetite.
Serious Side Effects: Esbriet may cause liver problems, severe stomach issues, skin rash, and increased sensitivity to sunlight. In rare cases, severe skin reactions may occur.

Safety Precautions for Esbriet (pirfenidone)
Before you take Esbriet (pirfenidone), tell your healthcare provider if you:

- Avoid sunlight. Esbriet can make your skin sensitive to the sun and artificial UV light. This may lead to severe sunburn. Use sunscreen (SPF 50), wear protective clothing, and avoid tanning beds. If you get a rash or sunburn, contact your doctor.
- Avoid other medications that increase sun sensitivity. Check with your doctor before using any new medications.
- Avoid smoking. Smoking may reduce the effectiveness of Esbriet.
How should I store Esbriet?
