Entocort Enema (Budesonide)

Do's

• Follow the healthcare provider's instructions. Use Entocort enema exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including dosage, frequency, and duration of treatment.
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before handling the enema.
• Shake the Entocort enema container gently to ensure the medication is mixed well.
• Lie on your left side with your left knee bent and pulled towards your chest.
• Attach the lubricated applicator tip to the enema container as instructed.
• Gently insert the applicator tip into your rectum, pointing it slightly towards your navel.
• Empty the entire contents of the enema container into your rectum by squeezing it firmly.
• Try to retain the enema solution in your rectum for at least 15-30 minutes, or as directed by your healthcare provider. Lie down quietly during this time.
• Throw away the used enema container and applicator tip in a safe and sanitary manner. Wash your hands again with soap and water.

Don'ts

• Don't use expired enema. Check the expiration date on the Entocort enema container and don't use it if it's expired.
• Don't force the enema. If you have difficulty inserting the applicator tip, don't force it. Stop and consult your healthcare provider.
• Don't reuse the enema. Entocort enema is for single use only. Don't attempt to reuse it.
• Don't eat or drink anything for about 30 minutes after using the enema, or as directed by your healthcare provider.

Common side effects:

• Bruising easily
• Chills
• Colds
• Cough
• Diarrhea
• Fever
• General feeling of discomfort or illness
• Headache
• Hoarseness
• Joint pain
• Loss of appetite
• Muscle aches and pains
• Nausea
• Runny nose
• Shivering

Serious side effects (seek medical attention if they occur):

• Slow/irregular/fast heartbeat
• Seizures
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction, such as rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, or trouble breathing
• Behavioral changes (e.g., agitation, anxiety, mood swings, restlessness)
• Signs of depression (e.g., poor concentration, changes in weight, changes in sleep, decreased interest in activities, thoughts of suicide)
• Signs of a serious allergic reaction (e.g., abdominal cramps, difficulty breathing, nausea and vomiting, or swelling of the face and throat)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Entocort enema, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Disclose Pre-existing Conditions. Tell your healthcare provider about any pre-existing medical conditions, particularly:

• Liver problems: May affect how your liver processes the medication.
• Tuberculosis (TB) or other infections: Can worsen infections.
• Osteoporosis: Steroids like budesonide can increase bone loss risk.
• Glaucoma or cataracts: Steroids can worsen these conditions.

Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider if you're pregnant or breastfeeding.

Do not use Entocort enema if you have a bowel obstruction.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescriptions, over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements, to avoid potential interactions.

Entocort enema may suppress your immune system, increasing your susceptibility to infections. Practice good hygiene and be cautious around sick people.

Steroids can rarely cause mood swings, depression, anxiety, or psychosis. Be aware of these potential effects and inform your healthcare provider about any changes in mood or behavior.

Long-term use may affect growth in children. Your healthcare provider will monitor growth carefully if your child is prescribed this medication.
