Elocon Ointment is indicated for the following conditions:

  1. Psoriasis and Dermatitis: Elocon Ointment is used to reduce redness and itchiness caused by certain skin problems such as psoriasis or dermatitis in both adults and children.
  2. Inflammatory and Pruritic Manifestations: It is indicated for the treatment of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of psoriasis (excluding widespread plaque psoriasis) and atopic dermatitis.
  3. Other Skin Conditions: Elocon Ointment is also used to treat skin conditions such as allergic reactions, eczema, and rash, reducing symptoms such as pain, redness, warmth, swelling, or itching.
  4. General Skin Relief: It is indicated for short-term relief of inflammatory and pruritic manifestations of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses, such as psoriasis and atopic dermatitis.

Do’s

  • If available from your pharmacist, read the Patient Information Leaflet of Elocon Ointment before initiating treatment and each time you get a refill. If you have any questions, ask your healthcare provider for clarification.
  • Use this medication only on certain areas of the skin. 
  • Wash and dry your hands before using the ointment. Clean and dry the affected area before application.
  • Apply the ointment as directed by your healthcare provider, usually a thin film to the affected area once daily. Gently rub it in.
  • Wash your hands with soap and water after each use unless you are using this medication to treat the hands. 
  • Use this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, use it at the same time each day.
  • If your condition does not improve after 2 weeks of treatment or if it worsens, inform your healthcare provider.

Don’ts

  • Do not use Elocon Ointment on the face, groin, or underarms, or for diaper rash, unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.
  • Do not cover the treated area with bandages or other dressings unless instructed to do so by your healthcare provider.
  • Do not wash or rinse the medication off immediately after applying it. 
  • Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, nose, or mouth. If this occurs, rinse thoroughly with water and contact your healthcare provider if the irritation lasts
  • Do not apply large amounts of this medication, use it more often, or use it for longer than prescribed. Your condition will not improve any faster, and your risk of side effects may increase.
  • Red or pus-filled bumps on the skin
  • Acne
  • Mild itching, tingling, or burning
