Do’s

Don'ts

• Don't take more Drisdol solution than prescribed by your healthcare provider. Too much vitamin D can be harmful.
• Don't stop taking the Drisdol solution without consulting your healthcare provider, especially if you were prescribed long-term treatment.
• Don't use Drisdol solution if it's past the expiration date.
• Don't skip doses: Try your best to take Drisdol solution as directed by your healthcare provider to maintain consistent vitamin D levels.

Serious Side Effects:

• Signs of vitamin D overdose: Weakness, metallic taste in the mouth, weight loss, muscle or bone pain, constipation, nausea, and vomiting
• Allergic reactions: Rash, itching, swelling (especially of the face/tongue).
• Hypercalcemia (high levels of calcium in the blood).
• Hypervitaminosis D (excessive vitamin D levels).
• Abnormal sensitivity to the toxic effects of vitamin D

Inform your healthcare provider if you have kidney disease, as high doses of vitamin D can worsen kidney function.

People with sarcoidosis (an inflammatory disease) may need to be cautious with high doses of vitamin D, as it can increase calcium levels.

Taking Drisdol solution with other vitamin D supplements or medications can increase your risk of vitamin D toxicity. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications and supplements you take.

Thiazide diuretics: These medications can interact with Drisdol solution and affect calcium levels. Inform your healthcare provider if you take thiazide diuretics.

Discuss the risks and benefits of using Drisdol solution with your healthcare provider if you are pregnant.

Vitamin D passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while taking Drisdol solution.

Avoid excessive sun exposure. While sunlight helps with vitamin D production, avoid excessive sun exposure without proper protection, as this can increase your risk of skin cancer.

Monitor blood calcium levels. Your healthcare provider may recommend monitoring your blood calcium levels periodically, especially if you are taking high doses of Drisdol solution or have risk factors for hypercalcemia.

Stop taking Drisdol solution and consult your healthcare provider if you experience concerning side effects, such as severe constipation, nausea, vomiting, or weakness.
