Dovobet ointment is a combination product that contains two medications: calcipotriol and betamethasone. It is primarily used to treat psoriasis, a skin condition characterized by excessive production of skin cells.

Dovobet ointment contains calcipotriol, which belongs to the class of medications known as vitamin D analogues. It works by controlling the excessive production of skin cells seen in psoriasis

The ointment also contains betamethasone, which is a corticosteroid. Betamethasone acts inside the cells to decrease the release of inflammatory substances, reducing swelling, redness, and itchiness

Dovobet ointment is used to treat stable plaque psoriasis, providing relief from itching, irritation, and inflammation, while soothing dry and flaky skin associated with psoriasis

Do's

  • Follow the healthcare provider's instructions: Apply Dovobet ointment exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider. This includes dosage, frequency, and duration of treatment.
  • Clean and dry: Clean and dry the affected area thoroughly before applying the ointment. Pat the area dry instead of rubbing.
  • Thin layer: Apply a thin film of Dovobet ointment to the affected skin only. Don't use a large amount.
  • Gently rub: Gently rub the ointment into the skin until it disappears.
  • Wash hands: Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after applying Dovobet ointment.

Don'ts

  • Don't have eyes, nose, or mouth: Avoid contact with your eyes, nose, or mouth. If accidental contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
  • Don't apply Dovobet ointment to broken, infected, or irritated skin.
  • Don't bandage or wrap the treated area unless specifically instructed by your healthcare provider, as this can trap moisture and worsen some conditions.
  • Don't use Dovobet ointment on large areas of skin, especially for extended periods, unless directed by your healthcare provider. Long-term use can increase the risk of side effects.
  • Don't use sun exposure. Dovobet ointment may increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure and use sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher while using this medication.
  • Don't use it with other medications. Tell your healthcare provider about all medications you take, including prescriptions, non-prescription, and herbal products. Dovobet ointment can interact with certain medications.
