Demadex (Torsemide)

Do’s

• Take Demadex by mouth with or without food as directed by your healthcare provider, usually once daily.
• The dosage is based on your medical condition and response to treatment.
• Take this medication regularly to get the most benefit from it. To help you remember, take it at the same time each day as directed.
• It may take 4 to 6 weeks, and sometimes up to 12 weeks, before the full blood pressure-lowering effect is seen. Keep taking this medication even if you feel well.
• If you also take certain drugs to lower your cholesterol (bile acid-binding resins such as cholestyramine or colestipol), take Demadex at least 1 hour before or at least 4 to 6 hours after these medications
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition does not get better or if it gets worse, such as if your blood pressure readings remain high or increase.

Don’ts

• Do not increase your dose or take this medication more often than directed.

• Nausea
• Weakness
• Runny nose
• Dizziness
• Headache
• Vomiting
• Hyperglycemia
• Excessive urination
• Hyperuricemia
• Hypokalemia
• Excessive thirst
• Hypovolemia
• Impotence

If you have high blood pressure, continue taking Demadex even if you feel well. High blood pressure often has no symptoms, and consistent use of blood pressure medication may be necessary for long-term management.

It is not known whether Demadex oral will harm an unborn baby. If you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant, discuss the potential risks and benefits of taking Demadex with your healthcare provider.

Store Demadex at room temperature away from moisture and heat.

If you miss a dose of Demadex, take the missed dose as soon as you can, but skip it if it's almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at one time.

Demadex should be used with caution in patients with hepatic disease with cirrhosis and ascites, as sudden alterations of fluid and electrolyte balance may precipitate hepatic coma. Additionally, ototoxicity (tinnitus and hearing loss) has been observed in some cases, and dehydration and electrolyte loss should be monitored while taking Demadex.
