Daypro (Oxaprozin)

Do’s

• Take Daypro exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including dosage and frequency (usually once daily).
• Take it with a full glass of water (8 ounces) unless your healthcare provider advises otherwise.
• Sit upright or stand for at least 10 minutes after taking Daypro.
• If you experience stomach upset, take it with food, milk, or an antacid.
• Discuss the risks and benefits of Daypro with your healthcare provider, especially regarding long-term use.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition worsens.

Don'ts

• Don't adjust your dosage or take it more often than prescribed.
• Don't skip or miss doses.
• Don't take Daypro right before bedtime.
• Don't take Daypro without first talking to your healthcare provider if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
• Don't switch between different Daypro forms (tablet, capsule) without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't expect immediate relief from arthritis pain. It may take up to 2 weeks for full effects.

Common side effects may include:

• Nausea/vomiting
• Headache
• Diarrhea
• Rash
• Dizziness
• Upset stomach
• Heartburn
• Constipation

Serious side effects that may require immediate medical attention include:

• Signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat, and difficulty breathing
• Severe skin reactions, including rash, blisters, skin reddening, or skin peeling
• Symptoms of liver problems, such as stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, and nausea/vomiting
• Signs of kidney problems, such as changes in urine output or color
• Symptoms of heart failure, such as swelling of the ankles/feet, unusual tiredness, and sudden weight gain
• Serious gastrointestinal adverse events, including inflammation, bleeding, ulceration, and perforation of the esophagus, stomach, small intestine, or large intestine

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Daypro,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider about any allergies to oxaprozin, aspirin, other NSAIDs, or inactive ingredients.

Discuss your medical history with your healthcare provider, especially if you have:

• Asthma (especially worsened by aspirin or NSAIDs)
• Liver disease
• Stomach/intestinal/esophageal problems (bleeding, ulcers, heartburn)
• Heart disease (history of heart attack)
• High blood pressure
• Stroke
• Blood disorders (anemia, bleeding/clotting problems)
• Nasal polyps

Daypro use can increase the risk of kidney problems, especially for dehydrated people, those with heart failure/kidney disease, older adults, or on certain medications. Drink plenty of fluids and tell your healthcare provider about any changes in urine output.

Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you take (including Daypro) before any surgery.

Daypro may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until the effects wear off. Limit alcohol and marijuana use which can worsen these effects.

Daypro may increase the risk of stomach bleeding. Limit alcohol and tobacco use, especially while taking Daypro.

Daypro can increase sun sensitivity. Limit sun exposure, avoid tanning booths/sunlamps, use sunscreen, and wear protective clothing outdoors. Seek medical help for sunburn or skin blisters/redness.

Increased risk of side effects like stomach bleeding, kidney problems, heart attack, and stroke.

Daypro may harm an unborn baby and cause delivery complications. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider before pregnancy and avoid using it after 20 weeks. If used between 20-30 weeks, the lowest effective dose for the shortest possible time is recommended.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as information on Daypro passing into breast milk is unknown.
