Cutivate lotion is a medication used to treat various skin conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and rashes.

The active ingredient in Cutivate lotion is fluticasone, which reduces swelling, itching, and redness by reducing inflammation.

Fluticasone is a medium-strength corticosteroid. Fluticasone ointment is not recommended for use by children because of the risk of serious side effects.

Do’s

  • Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before and after applying Cutivate cream, unless treating your hands.
  • Clean and dry the affected skin area before applying the cream.
  • Apply a thin film of the cream to the affected area, gently rubbing it in as directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Use Cutivate cream only for the prescribed condition and follow the recommended dosage and frequency.
  • Inform your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve within 2 weeks or if it worsens.

Don'ts

  • Don't use Cutivate cream on your face, groin, or underarms unless your healthcare provider specifically instructs you to do so.
  • Don't apply Cutivate cream to diaper rash without consulting your healthcare provider.
  • Don't use bandages, cover, or wrap the treated area unless directed by your healthcare provider.
  • Don't get Cutivate cream in your eyes, nose, or mouth. Rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
  • Don't use excessive amounts of Cutivate cream or apply it more often than prescribed.
  • Don't continue using Cutivate cream for longer than prescribed.

Common side effects:

  • Skin irritation, including temporary stinging or burning of the skin
  • Folliculitis (skin bumps caused by inflammation of the hair follicles)
  • Itching
  • Pustules (small pimple-like bumps on the skin that contain pus)
  • Skin rash

Serious side effects (seek medical attention):

  • Adrenal gland problems, may occur if Cutivate lotion is used for too long, over a large treatment area, with other topical medicines containing corticosteroids, if the treated area is covered, or in individuals with liver failure
  • Skin reactions or thinning of the skin (atrophy)
  • Skin infections
  • Allergic reactions, such as hives or swelling of the face, tongue, or throat
  • Vision problems

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Cutivate lotion, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to fluticasone propionate, formaldehyde (an inactive ingredient), or any ingredients in Cutivate Lotion.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Cutivate Lotion, especially:

  • Poor blood circulation
  • Diabetes
  • Immune system problems

Corticosteroids like fluticasone can worsen skin infections and make them harder to treat. Inform your healthcare provider if you have a skin infection or if your Cutivate treatment is not effective.

Using Cutivate Lotion for a long time or on large skin areas may suppress your body's response to physical stress. Tell your healthcare provider about Cutivate use before surgery, emergency treatment, or during serious illness/injury.

Long-term use in children may slightly slow growth. Regular healthcare provider visits to monitor height are recommended.

Use Cutivate only when clearly necessary during pregnancy. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if fluticasone passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
