Colyte Lavage Prep (Electrolytes/peg)

Do’s

• Follow your healthcare provider's instructions carefully. This includes any special diet instructions before your procedure.
• Mix the Colyte Solution with water exactly as directed. Read and follow all the instructions on the product label.
• Refrigerate the mixed solution after preparation. This will improve the taste.
• Drink the mixed solution quickly instead of sipping slowly.
• Follow your healthcare provider's specific instructions on when and how much to drink.
• Drink plenty of clear liquids as directed by your healthcare provider to avoid dehydration.
• Ask your healthcare provider if you are unsure about when to take other medications with Colyte Solution.

Don'ts

• Don't eat solid food starting on the day before your procedure until after your procedure, unless otherwise instructed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't use certain liquid thickeners with Colyte Solution, as they may not work well and increase the risk of choking. Talk to your healthcare provider if you use liquid thickeners.
• Don't take other medications by mouth within 1 hour before starting Colyte Solution.

Common Side Effects:

• Rhinorrhea (runny nose)
• Acute pulmonary edema (fluid accumulation in the lungs)
• Acute pulmonary edema after aspirating the PEG-based preparation

Serious Side Effects:

• Serious arrhythmias (abnormal heart rhythms) 
• History of prolonged QT
• Uncontrolled arrhythmias
• Recent myocardial infarction
• Unstable angina
• Congestive heart failure
• Cardiomyopathy
• Changes in certain blood tests
• Ulcers of the bowel
• Bowel problems, such as ischemic colitis
• Seizures 
• Serious loss of body fluid (dehydration) and changes in blood salts (electrolytes) in your blood. These changes can cause symptoms such as passing out, trouble breathing, or symptoms of dehydration.

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Colyte lavage prep, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have allergies to Colyte Lavage Prep or any of its ingredients.

Discuss any pre-existing conditions with your healthcare provider, especially:

• Certain stomach/intestinal problems (toxic colitis, obstruction, ulcerative colitis)
• Swallowing difficulties
• History of frequent vomiting
• Heart problems (heart failure, irregular heartbeat, QT prolongation)
• Kidney problems
• Seizure disorder
• Mineral imbalances (low blood sodium)

Before surgery, disclose all medications (including Colyte Lavage Prep) to your healthcare provider.

Children are more susceptible to dehydration with this medication. Use a room temperature solution for infants.

Children under 2 might experience low blood sugar due to not eating. Seek immediate medical help if you notice symptoms like shakiness, unusual sleepiness, or abnormal/prolonged crying in your child.

Use only if clearly necessary and discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding as it's unknown if the medication passes into breast milk.
