Clarinex Syrup (Desloratadine)

Do’s

• Take Clarinex syrup exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, including dosage and duration. This typically involves one teaspoon (2.5mg) once daily for adults and children 12 years and older. Dosage may vary depending on age.
• Use the measuring device provided (not a household spoon) to ensure you take the correct amount of Clarinex syrup.
• Take with or without food: You can take Clarinex syrup with or without food.
• Shake the bottle thoroughly before each use to ensure even distribution of the medication.

Don'ts

• Don't take more Clarinex syrup than prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't skip doses. Try not to miss any doses. If you do miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose.
• Don't give to infants (under 6 months). Clarinex syrup is not recommended for children under 6 months of age.

Common Side Effects:

• Dry mouth
• Sore throat
• Muscle pain
• Drowsiness
• Tiredness
• Menstrual pain
• Insomnia (reported in 2.3% of patients 6 to 23 months of age given oral syrup formulations)

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions such as rash, hives, itching, swelling of the face, lips, mouth, or tongue, and trouble breathing
• Fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat
• Shaking (tremor)
• Mental/mood changes (such as anxiety, confusion, nervousness, restlessness)
• Problems urinating
• Severe dizziness
• Trouble breathing
• Serious side effects are rare, but seek medical attention if any unusual or severe symptoms are experienced

Clarinex may cause drowsiness in some people. Be cautious driving or operating machinery until you know how this medication affects you.

Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Clarinex, as it can worsen drowsiness.

Clarinex can interact with other medications that cause drowsiness, including some allergy medications, pain medications, and medications for seizures or anxiety. Tell your healthcare provider about all the medications you take before starting Clarinex.

Consult your healthcare provider before using Clarinex if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Stop taking Clarinex and seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of an allergic reaction, such as rash, hives, swelling, difficulty breathing, or tightness in the chest.

Don't take Clarinex for longer than directed by your healthcare provider and don't take more than the prescribed dose.

Talk to your healthcare provider before using Clarinex if you have any kidney or liver problems.
