Cipro HC Otic (Ciprofloxacin/Hydrocortisone)

Do’s

• Use exactly as directed by your healthcare provider, usually twice daily for 7 days.
• Wash your hands thoroughly before using the ear drops.
• Shake the container well before each use.
• Warm the container by holding it in your hand for a few minutes to avoid dizziness.
• Lie on your side with the affected ear facing up.
• Place the prescribed number of drops into the ear canal.
• Hold the earlobe up and back (adults) or down and back (children) to help the drops roll in.
• Keep your head tilted with the treated ear upward for about 1 minute.
• Repeat for the other ear if directed by your healthcare provider.
• Use the medication for the full prescribed duration, even if symptoms improve.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition worsens or doesn't improve after 7 days of treatment.
• Report any fluid drainage from the ear after treatment is completed.

Don'ts

• Don't use Cipro HC Otic in your eye.
• Don't touch the dropper tip with your fingers or let it touch your ear or any other surface.
• Don't rinse the dropper after use.
• Don't stop using the medication early unless directed by your healthcare provider.
• Don't use this medication for any other ear condition without consulting your healthcare provider.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Vomiting
• Upset stomach
• Skin irritation, such as burning, itching, or redness
• Metallic taste in the mouth
• Itching or numbness at the application site

Serious Side Effects:

• Signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Severe skin reactions: blistering, crusting, irritation, or reddening of the skin
• Cardiac arrest
• Seizure
• Status epilepticus
• Respiratory failure
• Symptoms of theophylline toxicity if used concomitantly with theophylline
• Serious and occasionally fatal hypersensitivity (anaphylactic) reactions, some following the first dose
• Caution should be exercised when used by pregnant women
• Discontinue at the first appearance of a skin rash or any other sign of hypersensitivity

• Inform your healthcare provider if you have allergies to Ciprofloxacin (a quinolone antibiotic) or hydrocortisone (a corticosteroid), or any other ingredients in Cipro HC Otic.
• Disclose your medical history to your healthcare provider, especially if you have a perforated eardrum (hole in your eardrum) or a viral ear infection (herpes simplex or varicella).
• Cipro HC Otic should only be used during pregnancy if absolutely necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.
• Cipro HC Otic passes into breast milk but is unlikely to harm your baby. However, consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding while using this medication.
