Ciloxan Ophthalmic Solution (Ciprofloxacin)

Do’s

• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before touching the dropper or your eye.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent introducing germs.
• Tilt your head back, look up, and gently pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper bottle upright over your eye and squeeze one drop into the pouch.
• Look downward and gently close your eyes for 1-2 minutes.
• Place one finger at the corner of your eye near your nose and apply gentle pressure to prevent the medication from draining out.
• Try not to blink or rub your eye immediately after application.
• If your healthcare provider instructs you to treat both eyes, repeat the application steps for your other eye.
• Replace the dropper cap tightly after each use.
• If using other eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes between applying each medication. Apply eye drops first, followed by ointments, to allow the drops to penetrate the eye.
• Allow a few minutes for your vision to clear before driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring clear vision.
• Use Ciloxan eye drops for the entire prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve after a few days. Stopping it early can allow the infection to return.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your eye infection worsens or doesn't improve after using Ciloxan eye drops for a while.

Don'ts

• Don't wear contact lenses. Avoid wearing contact lenses while using Ciloxan eye drops. Consult your healthcare provider before resuming contact lens use.
• Don't rush activities. Wait for your vision to return to normal before driving or operating machinery after applying the drops.
• Don't ignore worsening conditions. Don't disregard worsening symptoms or a lack of improvement. Inform your healthcare provider if your eye infection persists.

Common Side Effects:

• Temporary blurred vision
• Tearing or feeling of something in the eye

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions such as hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat
• Severe burning, stinging, or irritation after using the medicine
• Eye swelling, redness, severe discomfort, crusting, or drainage (may be signs of infection)

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking Ciloxan ophthalmic solution, contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to ciprofloxacin, other quinolone antibiotics (levofloxacin, moxifloxacin), or any ingredients in Ciloxan Ophthalmic Solution, especially preservatives like benzalkonium chloride.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Ciloxan Ophthalmic Solution, especially:

• Contact lens use (may need to be removed temporarily)
• Other eye problems

Ciloxan Ophthalmic Solution may cause temporary blurred or unstable vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring clear vision until your vision clears.

Use Ciloxan Ophthalmic Solution only when clearly necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. It is unknown if ciprofloxacin passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
