Cefzil Suspension (Cefprozil Susp)

Do’s

• Take Cefprozil suspension exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically once or twice daily. You can take it with food to minimize stomach upset.
• Shake the bottle thoroughly before each dose to ensure even distribution of the medication.
• Use the provided measuring device/spoon to carefully measure the prescribed dose. Don't use a household spoon, as it may not provide the correct amount.
• Take Cefprozil suspension at evenly spaced times throughout the day, ideally at the same times each day, for optimal effectiveness.
• Continue taking Cefprozil suspension for the full prescribed duration, even if your symptoms improve after a few days. Stopping it early can lead to the infection returning.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your condition doesn't improve or worsens after taking Cefprozil suspension for a while.

Don'ts

• Don't take more or less medication than prescribed, or take it more often.
• Don't skip doses: Try not to miss any doses. If you do miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is close to the time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not double the dose to catch up.

Common Side Effects:

• Nausea
• Diarrhea
• Vaginal itching or discharge
• Diaper rash
• Abnormal liver function tests
• Skin irritation at the patch application site
• Itching or redness at the patch application site
• Mild drowsiness
• Dry mouth

Serious Side Effects:

• Rash
• Itching
• Hives
• Difficulty breathing or swallowing
• Wheezing
• Swelling of the face, throat, tongue, lips, or eyes
• Watery or bloody stools, stomach cramps, or fever during treatment or for up to two or more months after stopping treatment
• A return of fever, sore throat, chills, or other signs of infection
• Easy bruising/bleeding
• Mental/mood changes (such as confusion)
• Serious acute hypersensitivity reactions may require treatment with epinephrine and other emergency measures, including oxygen, intravenous fluids, intravenous antihistamines, corticosteroids, pressor amines, and airway management, as clinically indicated
• Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea
• A very serious allergic reaction to this drug is rare. However, get medical help right away if you notice any symptoms of a serious allergic reaction, including rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, trouble breathing

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to cefprozil, penicillins, other cephalosporin antibiotics, or any ingredients in Cefprozil Suspension.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Cefprozil Suspension, especially:

• Kidney disease
• Intestinal disease (colitis)

If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or a condition requiring aspartame restriction, consult your healthcare provider before using Cefprozil Suspension (may contain aspartame).

Cefprozil Suspension may cause dizziness. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness until effects subside. Limit alcohol and marijuana use.

Cefprozil may interfere with the effectiveness of live bacterial vaccines. Inform your healthcare provider about Cefprozil use before any vaccinations.

Age-Specific Side Effects:

• Older adults may be more sensitive to side effects.
• Children may be more prone to rashes.

Use only when clearly necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. Cefprozil passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
