Aygestin (norethindrone acetate tablets USP) is indicated for the following:

  1. Treatment of Secondary Amenorrhea: Aygestin is used for the treatment of secondary amenorrhea, which is the absence of menstrual periods in women who have previously had regular menstrual cycles.
  2. Treatment of Endometriosis: It is also indicated for the treatment of endometriosis, a condition in which tissue similar to the lining inside the uterus is found outside the uterus, causing pain and other symptoms.
  3. Treatment of Abnormal Uterine Bleeding: Aygestin is used for the treatment of abnormal uterine bleeding due to hormonal imbalance in the absence of organic pathology, such as submucous fibroids or uterine cancer.

Do's

  • Take Aygestin by mouth as prescribed by your doctor. 
  • Take the medication with food or after a meal to prevent stomach upset.

Aygestin may interact with certain medications and smoking combined with this medication increases the risk of strokes, blood clots, high blood pressure, and heart attacks.

Aygestin should not be used if the individual has undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, breast cancer, liver disease, or a liver tumor. It may not be suitable for individuals who have had a heart attack, a stroke, or a blood clot.
