Augmentin (amoxicillin/clavulanate) is indicated for the short-term treatment of infections caused by bacteria susceptible to the action of amoxicillin/clavulanate for the following sites:

  • Lower Respiratory Tract Infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing isolates of Haemophilus influenzae and Moraxella catarrhalis.
  • Acute Bacterial Otitis Media in adults.
  • Other conditions where infections are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria.

Augmentin should be used only to treat infections that are proven or strongly suspected to be caused by susceptible bacteria. When culture and susceptibility information are available, they should be considered in selecting or modifying antibacterial therapy.

Do's

  • Carefully measure the dose of this medication using a special measuring device/spoon. The dosage of Augmentin is based on age, weight, medical condition, and response to treatment.
  • The dosage may vary depending on the specific product, and the medication is usually taken every 8 or 12 hours for the best effect.
  • Shake the bottle well before each dose to ensure proper dispersion of the medication.

Augmentin can interact with various drugs, including doxycycline, allopurinol, methotrexate, warfarin, and oral contraceptives. Consult a healthcare provider before taking any drug, changing any diet, or commencing or discontinuing any course of treatment.

The medication should be taken with caution in individuals with liver diseases, as it can worsen liver damage in such patients.
