Alphagan Eyedrops (Brimonidine)

Do’s

• Wash your hands thoroughly before using Alphagan Drops.
• Remove contact lenses before applying the drops and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
• Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pocket.
• Instill one drop directly into the affected eye.
• Close your eye gently for 1-2 minutes, applying pressure near the corner of your eye to prevent drainage.
• Repeat for the other eye if instructed by your healthcare provider.
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface.
• Replace the cap securely after each use.
• Use Alphagan Drops at the same times each day as prescribed by your healthcare provider.
• Continue using the medication even if you feel well.
• Inform your healthcare provider if your condition worsens.

Don't

• Don't skip doses or stop using Alphagan Drops without consulting your healthcare provider.
• Don't rinse the dropper after use.
• Don't use Alphagan Drops with other eye medications within 5 minutes of each other. Apply eye drops before ointments.
• Don't operate machinery or drive until your vision clears after using the drops.

Common side effects of Alphagan eye drops may include:

• Mild itching, redness, burning, or other irritation of the eyes
• Dry mouth
• Blurred vision
• Drowsiness or tiredness

Serious side effects of Alphagan eye drops are rare but may include:

• Eye pain or increased watering
• Vision changes
• Severe swelling, redness, burning, or discomfort in or around the eye
• Allergic reactions, such as hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat

This is not an exhaustive list, and other side effects may occur. If you experience any unusual or severe side effects while taking  Alphagan eye drops,  contact your healthcare provider for medical advice.

Inform your healthcare provider if you have allergies to Alphagan Drops, apraclonidine (the active ingredient), or any other ingredients.

Tell your healthcare provider about your medical history, especially:

• Blood vessel diseases (thromboangiitis obliterans)
• Blood circulation problems (cerebral or coronary insufficiency)
• Depression
• Severe heart disease
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Raynaud's disease
• Low blood pressure upon standing (orthostatic hypotension)

Alphagan Drops may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or blurry vision.

Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until these effects subside.

Limit alcohol and marijuana use which can worsen these effects.

Children may be more sensitive to drowsiness.

Alphagan Drops should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss risks and benefits with your healthcare provider. It is unknown if Alphagan Drops pass into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
