Deltasone (Prednisone)

Do’s

• The dosage and length of treatment with Deltasone are determined based on an individual's medical condition and their response to the treatment. Take this medication exactly as directed by your healthcare provider and follow the dosing schedule carefully.
• Deltasone should be taken by mouth, with food or milk to prevent stomach upset, as directed by your healthcare provider.
• If you are prescribed the tablet form of Deltasone, it should be taken with a full glass of water (8 ounces/240 milliliters) unless your healthcare provider directs you otherwise.
• For those using the liquid form of Deltasone, carefully measure the dose using a special measuring device/spoon.
• If you are prescribed only one dose per day, it should be taken in the morning before 9 A.M..
• For those taking Deltasone on a different schedule (such as every other day), it may be helpful to mark a calendar with a reminder.
• Always remember to consult your healthcare provider for specific details regarding the use of Deltasone and to report any new or worsening symptoms promptly.

Don’ts

• Do not use a household spoon to measure the liquid form because you may not get the correct dose.
• Do not stop taking Deltasone without consulting your healthcare provider, as some conditions may worsen when the drug is suddenly stopped. Additionally, symptoms such as weakness, weight loss, nausea, muscle pain, headache, tiredness, and dizziness may be experienced if the medication is stopped abruptly. If you are advised to discontinue this medication, your healthcare provider may gradually reduce your dose to prevent withdrawal symptoms and worsening of your condition.

Common Side Effects:

• Muscle or joint pain
• Weakness
• Headache, dizziness, spinning sensation
• Nausea, bloating, loss of appetite
• Slow wound healing
• Acne, increased sweating, thinning skin, bruising, pinpoint spots under the skin 

Serious Side Effects:

• Allergic reactions: Symptoms of a serious allergic reaction may include rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness, and trouble breathing

Seek medical help immediately if any of the serious side effects are experienced.

Long-term use of Deltasone may lead to thinning of the bones (osteoporosis) or slow growth in children. Individuals should inform their healthcare provider if they experience any bone pain or have an increased risk for osteoporosis. 

Consult a healthcare provider for personalized information regarding the potential side effects of Deltasone and report any new or worsening symptoms.

Store Deltasone at room temperature away from light and moisture. Avoid storing it in the bathroom and keep it out of reach of children and pets. Properly discard the product when it is expired or no longer needed. 

Deltasone can interact with other drugs. Consult a healthcare provider before taking any other medication alongside it.

It is not known whether Deltasone may harm an unborn baby. Pregnant individuals should inform their healthcare provider if they are pregnant or plan to become pregnant

Breastfeeding while using Deltasone is not recommended

The use of Deltasone in active tuberculosis should be restricted to specific cases and used in conjunction with an appropriate anti-tuberculous regimen.
