Alphagan P Eyedrops (Brimonidine)

Do’s

• Use Alphagan P exactly as prescribed by your healthcare provider, typically three times daily in the affected eye(s).
• Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water before using the eye drops to prevent contamination.
• If you wear contact lenses, remove them before applying Alphagan P and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them.
• Tilt your head back, look up, and pull down your lower eyelid to create a pouch. Hold the dropper directly over your eye and gently squeeze to instill one drop.
• Close your eyes gently for 1-2 minutes and apply gentle pressure near the corner of your eye (by the nose) to prevent drainage.
• Avoid blinking or rubbing your eye after applying the drops.
• If directed by your healthcare provider, repeat these steps for your other eye.
• If using other eye drops or ointments, wait at least 5 minutes before applying Alphagan P. Use eye drops before ointments.
• Allow a few minutes for your vision to clear before driving, operating machinery, or engaging in activities requiring clear sight.
• Keep using Alphagan P even if you feel well. Consistent use is crucial for effectiveness.
• Use Alphagan P at the same times each day for consistent medication levels in your eye.
• Tell your healthcare provider if your eye condition worsens while using Alphagan P.

Don'ts

• Don't: touch dropper tip. Avoid touching the dropper tip to your eye or any other surface to prevent contamination.
• Don't skip doses or use Alphagan P more often than prescribed.
• Don't rinse the dropper after use.
• Don't use Alphagan P past its expiration date.

Common side effects:

• Itchy, irritated, red, stinging, or burning eyes
• Dry eyes
• Watery or runny eyes
• Red or swollen eyelids
• Sensitivity to light
• Blurred vision
• Headache
• Drowsiness
• Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep
• Dry mouth
• Runny nose and other cold symptoms
• Cough
• Sore throat
• Flu-like symptoms
• Pain or pressure in the face
• Heartburn

Serious side effects (rare, but may require medical attention):

• Rash
• Difficulty breathing
• Seeing specks or flashes of light
• Blind spots
• Fainting
• Dizziness
• Nausea

Inform your healthcare provider if you are allergic to apraclonidine or any ingredients in Alphagan P Eye Drops.

Disclose any pre-existing medical conditions to your healthcare provider before using Alphagan P Eye Drops, especially:

• Blood vessel diseases (thromboangiitis obliterans)
• Blood circulation problems (cerebral or coronary insufficiency)
• Depression
• Severe heart disease
• Kidney disease
• Liver disease
• Raynaud's disease (affects blood flow in fingers and toes)
• Low blood pressure upon standing (orthostatic hypotension)

Alphagan P Eye Drops may cause dizziness, drowsiness, or temporary blurred vision. Avoid driving, operating machinery, or activities requiring alertness or clear vision until effects subside. Limit alcohol and marijuana use while using Alphagan P Eye Drops.

Children may be more sensitive to side effects like drowsiness.

Alphagan P Eye Drops should only be used during pregnancy when clearly necessary. Discuss the risks and benefits with your healthcare provider.

It is unknown if apraclonidine passes into breast milk. Consult your healthcare provider before breastfeeding.
