Zofran (ondansetron) is indicated for the prevention and treatment of nausea and vomiting associated with various conditions. It is used for the following purposes:

  1. Chemotherapy-Induced Nausea and Vomiting (CINV): Zofran is used to manage nausea and vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy in adults and children.
  2. Post-Operative Nausea and Vomiting (PONV): It is indicated for the prevention and treatment of post-operative nausea and vomiting in adults and pediatric populations.
  3. Other Uses: Zofran is also used to prevent nausea and vomiting caused by surgery, radiation, and other medical procedures.

Do's

  • Take Zofran orally within 30 minutes before chemotherapy begins. 
  • Take the dosage ranging from 4 to 24 mg, depending on the specific chemotherapy agents being used. 
  • Take Zofran up to 3 times a day for 1 to 2 days after chemotherapy. 
  • Take Zofran by mouth 1 hour before the start of surgery for the prevention and treatment of postoperative nausea and vomiting. 
  • Use a usual dosage of 16 mg for this purpose 1 hour before the induction of anesthesia. 
  • Take Zofran by mouth 1 to 2 hours before the start of radiation treatment for nausea and vomiting prevention. 
  • Taken Zofran with or without food, as directed by a healthcare provider. 
  • Follow the healthcare provider's instructions regarding dosage adjustments based on age and weight, especially for children. 
  • Use a special measuring spoon or device for the liquid form of Zofran to measure the prescribed dose.

Don'ts
