Renagel (Sevelamer) is utilized to lower high blood phosphorus (phosphate) levels in patients undergoing dialysis due to severe kidney disease. While dialysis removes some phosphate from the blood, it may not be sufficient to maintain balanced phosphate levels.

Lowering blood phosphate levels can aid in maintaining strong bones, preventing unsafe mineral buildup in the body, and potentially reducing the risk of heart disease and strokes associated with high phosphate levels.

Sevelamer works by binding to phosphate from the diet, facilitating its elimination from the body.
